Email Addresses

Reverse Searching Email addresses: If you have an email address, and you don'r know who it is for, thenyou can do a google search with the entire email address in quotes. But that won't give you many results. The best way to do the google search is to put in quotes the portion of the email address that is before the @ sign, and then do the google search. This will give you many times more results.

How to find email addresses of people:

Finding the email address of someone is often challenging, but here are a few methods that can be used:

1. SCOPUS: If the person has written an academic article, then his or her email address will be in SCOPUS as the contact author, if he is the lead author, and sometime even if not the lead author. But you have to be at a college, university, or public library that subscibes to this service to access SCOPUS.

2. World of Science (WOS), World of Knowledge (WOK): Ibid SCOPUS, which actually includes WOS. But SCOPUS may not include everything in WOK, which includes coverage of thousands of non-science journals;

3. Academia.edu: As of April, 2015, Academia.edu had over 21 million registered users. There are several methods that can be used with Academia.edu to get email addresses:

3.1. Email Address listed by Person: The person may have listed his email address on the left side under his picture.

3.2 Free Inmail Route and Ask: You can send send free emails within Academia, but you can't see the actual email address, uless they have voluntarily shown it on the  left side. I don't know if an email sent this way goes only to their Academia in-box, or if they get a notice to the email address that they used to sign up for Academia. This is an important question, because if it goes only to their Academia in-box, and they don't check their Academia account very often, they may not get your message for a long time.

3.3. Papers Published and listed in Academia.edu Route: An additional method within Academia is to look at any papers they have listed in Academia that they have published, and those papers frequently have the contact email address of the author(s).

3.4. College , University, Institutional Route: The fourth method is to identify the college, university, or other institution they are associated with, which is almost always shown in the profile, and then go to that institution's website and search for the department that the person works in and see if their email address is there; You could use that "site" operator to quickly find them in the college website. Or you can call the institution and ask them for the contact email of the person you are looking for.

4. ResearchGate: Ibid Academia.edu; ResearchGate had 2.6 million users as of 2013.

5. Google Scholar: Google Scholar has papers for most of the peer reviewed journals of the US and Europe. As of May, 2014, it was estimated to have about 160 million papers in its database, all with contact information of the lead authors, and others. One study estimated that Google Scholar has 80-90% of all articles published in English.

6. Intelius: This service will find anyone in the United States, as long as you know a current or former state they lived in. It will also show current and former email addresses.

7. Yasni.com: This is a worldwide people meta-search engine that searches Academia, ResearchGate, Intelius, Facebook, LinkedIn, and many other sources for the person you are seeking. It includes the places of work of the person which enable you to go there and find a contact email address. It is similar to what the old Pipl search engine was like for the US. It is very useful for people with not-so-common names, but if the person has a common last name and a common first name, then it will give you too many results to have to check out.
