Fred Nadis

Fred Nadis is the author of two books that explore the strange and unusaul side of American popular culture. His first book, Wonder Shows: Performing Science, Magic, and Religion in America (2005) covers the history of "mystic vaudeville" acts such as mind-reading and hypnotism as well as "gee whiz" science displays at world's fairs by evangelists and big business. His second book, The Man from Mars: Ray Palmer's Amazing Journey (2014) was a Locus Award Finalist in nonfiction, and is a biography of Ray Palmer (1910-1977). Palmer was controversial editor and publisher of periodicals on UFO's, science fiction, the paranormal, and related subjects. Nadis grew up in suburban Chicago and now lives in California.
