Hopkins Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Organization (HTCMRO)

Welcome to the Hopkins Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Organization, the first such organization to be established for John Hopkins researchers and other interested people.

Mission: To promote interest in, and research on, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and to make the benefits of TCM available to the world.

Membership open to: Hopkins students, faculty, physicians, employees, alumni, and others who interested in Traditonal Chinese Medicine and the promotion of research on TCM.

Objectives:

1. Identify all TCM herbal recipes that have ever been used traditionally for the treatment of any disease or disorder. (This has essentially been done already, at least 99%, by the Shanghai Innovative Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SIRC - TCM), which has compiled a database of over 150,000 recipes for all known diseases. http://www.sirc-tcm.sh.cn/en/index.html )

2. To translate the entire database in Objective #1, above, so  that non-Chinese researchers worldwide can understand and do research on TCM recipes to determine their effectiveness, specify optimum formulations, and do other beneficial research related to TCM.

3. To identify all Chinese bio-medical periodicals and journals that are currently being published, and that have been published in the past, but are no longer being published. (Nearly all currently published Chinese biomed periodicals are listed at the website:    this includes journals and other periodicals. A large number are also listed in Ulrich's Periodical database.)

4. To translate all of the titles of the articles in the above Chinese journals, and make a title, author, and subject index, so that researchers worldwide can see what research has been done by Chinese on specific subjects;

5. To create a mechanism whereby articles in Chinese journals that are desired by researchers can be easily obtained;

6. To identify all Traditional Chinese Medicine medical schools, research organizations, societies, and other associations in China for collaboration purposes;

7. To identify all Traditional Chinese Medicine research institutions, training schools, and other organizations outside of China. This has already been done for the United States and Canada by John H. Reed, M.D., MPH, who created a database of over 400 such organizations in these two countries. But the rest of the world needs to be done, so that researchers and practitioners can collaborate worldwide;)

8. To identify all journals and other periodicals on Traditional Chinese Medicine that are being published, or have been published in the past, worldwide;

9. To establish a newsletter to report the activities of this organization and its members. (This has already been established: click here.)
